The ideal candidate would possess the following qualifications:

• A degree from a recognized university or an acceptable combination of education, job-related training and/or experience.

· Experience in managing projects and staff;

· Demonstrated success coordinating protocol, logistics and administration for ceremonial events and programs; and

· Experience dealing with parliamentarians would be considered an asset.

· Good understanding of the legal, historical and cultural conditions of parliamentary institutions in Canada and abroad;

· Knowledge of ceremonies that are part of Canada’s parliamentary heritage;

• Knowledge of the Canadian parliamentary system, the legislative process and the constitutional mandate of the Senate;

· Knowledge of the current political agenda, current legislative initiatives and current domestic issues would be considered an asset; and

· Knowledge of current security issues, both domestic and international, as well as remedial approaches and applications for resolution, would also be considered an asset.

Ottawa Job of the Day: Underwater Archaeology Technician

Work Environment

Parks Canada is a network of professional and technical expertise established to support National Parks, National Historic Sites and National Marine Conservation Areas in the protection and presentation of cultural and natural resources. Offices for this position are located in Cornwall and Ottawa, Ontario.

The successful candidate will serve as a diving and support technician for Parks Canada’s Underwater Archaeology Service, a national team based in Ottawa that conducts work across Canada at National Parks, National Marine Conservation Areas, and National Historic Sites. Within the wider Parks Canada organization this team helps protect and present nationally significant examples of Canada’s underwater cultural heritage and helps foster public understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of these sites for present and future generations. The successful candidate will join a team of experienced professional scientific archaeological divers and technologists and participate in a range of tasks including archaeological fieldwork, surveys, logistics support, and boat and vehicle operation in all regions of Canada. Much of this work takes place in remote and environmentally challenging locations. It requires excellent technical aptitude in diving-related equipment operation, maintenance and repair, keen professional diving skills and experience, effective interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to fit into a dynamic professional team.

Ottawa Job of the Day: Orchestra Operations Assistant Personnel Manager

Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, the incumbent is responsible for creating and maintaining the NAC facilities scheduling in Artifax and OPAS for the NAC Orchestra. He or she also maintains the NACO musicians’ calendar, monthly bulletin and mailing list.He or she will also manage multiple choirs. The incumbent acts as the Pops operations and Production liaison for props, lighting, costumes and rehearsals. He or she also provides support to the Orchestra Manager as well as the Managing Director on special projects only. In addition, the incumbent will also provide support in the Personnel Office, and will engage musicians for Pops concerts. Travel may be required with the Orchestra on Tours and/on Run-outs. Work schedule for this position may vary from time to time.
